First time to the Sturgeon Bay Area. Stayed just about a mile from this wonderful restaurant and bakery at the AmericInn (Groupon Deal). Arrived on a Saturday morning around 9am. Off peak season trip to Door County. First time for my wife and I. Won't be the last. We loved the nice big booth we sat in. Nice atmosphere and really good service. I ordered the Early Riser (two eggs, bacon and French toast). I added a cherry topping on my french toast. Well worth it. My wife ordered the biscuits and gravy with home fries and bacon. The gravy was delicious. Had a lot of flavor. I ordered a cherry pie for Sunday morning to take back to Madison. Best decision. And some cherry turnovers. Mmmmmmm. Very tasty and absolutely delicious. What a gem!! Can't wait to come back.

I was on my way to an event near Green Bay and stopped in for a quick breakfast. I ordered a cinnamon roll and a cup of coffee.. The cinnamon roll was stale and tasted like cardboard. The coffee was weak and tasted like a brown crayon dipped in hot water. However, the most memorable part of my visit was the young lady who rang me up. She seemed like a nice person, but talk about clueless - she didn't have any idea how to make change. My tab came to $6.06. I didn't want a bunch of coins or singles. So I gave her $21.06 - which translates into $15 even as change. For the life of her she could not figure it out. I (patiently) explained it to her, but to no avail. So, I got out my phone, opened the calculator app, and showed her that 21.06 - 6.06 = 15.00. Only then was she able to give me the correct change.

Every Wednesday is pizza night. That's all they do that night, nothing but pizza. I've wanted to check out their pizza for a while. With an name like Scaturo, I figured the pizza would have to be great. I was right. This was a nice hand tossed crust loaded with toppings and a generous amount of cheese. The pizza was light on the sauce and baked to perfection. The sausage on the pizza looks like it could have come from the meat market next door. All in all I think this is the best pizza I have had in Sturgeon Bay. The bakery always has fresh baked breads and pastries. We also got the Wednesday 2 for 1 fresh bread special they have every Wednesday.

Cute homey mom and pop kind of restaurant. The breakfast we had was quite good. But the breads and donuts and pies were the most impressive! Can't wait to try them!

This is a great breakfast place! Quaint cafe with a darling event room. The food and bakery items were delicious, and the prices incredible. We will definitely go back the next time we are in the area.

Stopped here for breakfast, and it was a good experience. The morning after 4th of July was very busy, we waited a bit to get seated, and our food took a while, but once it arrived it was delicious. Ingredients tasted fresh, pancakes were thin and delicious, and their biscuits were buttery and fluffy to boot. Solid meal, decent service, I'd eat there again.

The exterior of Scaturo's has a creative non-corporate not-by-the-book look that attracts me creating an image of home cooking with warm and fuzzes. There is an enticing smelling bakery to the left and the restaurant is among two rooms on the right. I was quickly waited on (there was no one else there) and ordered the Cheese Ravioli. When was asked at payment time how everything was I mentioned it was on the bland side. I was informed the marinara sauce was their own. The sauce was runny and lacked spirit, the ravioli was somewhat soggy not springy. The portions were kind of small because it is a lunch place mostly and closes at 5:00 p.m. so I took out a cherry turnover (something I rarely do) and found it was tender and buttery. If I am in the area again I would definitely head for the bakery and by-pass the restaurant.

So far probably my favorite place in sturgeon bay. Good breakfast nice people and good lunch. My one complaint is their biscuits are not traditional biscuits and they could do better. Its a bakery. Everything else is very good and they use fresh ingredients. If they Made better biscuits, they get the extra star.

My parents have lived in Door County for 30+ years. We were having a celebration of life for my mother who passed away six months ago. My father had ordered food for the families coming together and asked if I could go down and pick up the $150 worth of food plus bread. He had warned me about the wife of the owner, telling me she is very rude and negative. She was all that and more--very NASTY and inhospitable. When she came into view of the employees you could see them tighten up and and become stressed out. Every employee other than her was very nice and helpful. We went in to buy bread on Tuesday, they were out and she refused to give a raincheck. When we went to pick up the rest of our order on Thursday, she stared us down, screamed at us and then, ultimately, gave us our order. The vegetable lasagna was poor but the Chicken parmesan was great!!!! The side dish of hate and shock was an unpleasant addition -- we would have just appreciated the bread and a slice of compassion instead. So in ending, a nice place, good food, and a NASTY, UGLY, HATEFUL OWNER'S WIFE!!!!! How they became so popular was not because of her!!!! We ( My Father ,2 Sisters,1 Brother, 15 cousins and grand kids) will never go there again and tell every one in Door County, Green Bay, Wisconsin, Arizona, Montana, Colorado, Alaska and every Packer Fan I see flying who tells me he's going to Door County (I work for a major airline) NOT TO EAT AT A PLACE WHERE THE OWNER IS FULL HATE!

Scaturo's Baking Co & Cafe was a great experience during my recent, first trip to Door County, Wisconsin. The staff was personable, friendly, interested and interesting. I would certainly be a regular if I lived in the area. I also bought one of the best Cherry Pies, ever, there to bring home as a gift to a friend. The gift was "the best cherry pie I have ever had...like my mom's".

Very good place for breakfast in sturgeon bay! Very cozy little place staff was friendly and prompt. Ordered the ham and cheese omelette and it was amazing excellent portions of tasty cubed ham and wonderful door county cheese inside. But the ultimate were the homemade buttermilk biscuits they were amazing by themselves but a little jelly added to the mix was the perfect topper for these exquisite biscuits. Highly recommend this place for breakfast!!

We stayed in Sturgeon Bay and asked the hotel where a good place to eat breakfast was. Without hesitation she said you need to check out Scaturo's. She said it is so good, yet so bad for you. We easily found the place and as we walked in you could smell the fresh bakery. It is not a very big place, but when you walk through the door you can tell it is pretty popular. The bakery items were wonderful. They also had dished up plates of mac and cheese and other items you could take home with you. The girls and I had the buffet. It was $12.99 and all you can eat. There was mac and cheese, lasagna, pancakes, biscuits and gravy, scones, cherry cobbler, hashbrown bake and it also included a made to order omelet. Everything was wonderful! This is definitely a great breakfast place to check out when you are in Sturgeon Bay!

I have eaten here over ten times in the past couple of months due to co-workers liking it and we are traveling for work. Food is good. Services is good. I'd recommend the mob.

Descriptive phrase: fish boil. If you're in Door County, you need to eat a fish boil. And Scaturo's definitely delivered a great experience for the right price. We were seated in a cute screened porch area, then allowed to get a drink and roam the boil area outside. After the inferno of the boil, we came back inside and waited (not long) for the food. All you can eat whitefish (with teeny bones, but they come out easily), carrots, potatoes, and onions. This is simple but tasty cooking at its best. Essentially no seasoning, and traditionally bland ingredients, but somehow so delicious. As has been said, don't fill up too fast on the potatoes; go for more fish and carrots. I had a chocolate chip cookie instead of their apple pie, and it was greasy-gooey-goodness.

We went just for the Fish Boil! You can grab a brew/beverage and sit on the bench or stand and watch the boil over happen. Then go back in and grab your seat. Reservations are recommended and I personally recommend sitting in the back area where it's screened on warm days. For being so basic, the fish boil is damn good. Be prepared for lots 'o butter! Note that you can always ask for less butter and still just as good. There really isn't seasoning, so grab your salt shaker. Oh AND it's all you can eat so watch out for all those potatoes that they try to fill you up on (wink, wink) For dessert was a cherry pie. But, it was more like a crumble or something. I couldn't quite stomach it, there was WAY TOO MUCH clove or allspice in it - too overpowering. I'd return!

I loved everything I nibbled on here. Everything was obviously fresh and homemade and the menu had a lot of stuff to choose from that you wouldn't necessarily find elsewhere (BBQ sliders? yum!). The baked goods were amazing too. I wish I could have eaten more!

Had breakfast here. The skillet was generous proportion. Service was decent. Coffee was ok. Nice and cozy. I recommend this place.

Breakfast. It was Sunday morning, but we skipped the all you can eat brunch and ordered off the menu. The coffee was great. I had french toast and it was really tasty. Homemade bread made it special. My partner had some combination that had sausage and biscuit, bacon, potatoes and eggs. He thought the biscuits could be better, but were pretty good. Service was good - although I was glad our server had short hair as many of the servers had lots of long hair. I would have been checking my food before eating. The bakery looked great - I was glad I was too full to take anything with me. the prices seemed pretty reasonable for Door County.

One liner: A tasty, consistent lunch and breakfast option. Nice people and good breakfasts. If you get there for lunch, try one of their soups. Also...GREAT bakery. Don't bother paying $8-10 for a loaf of fresh bakery bread in Door County...come to Scaturo's and get one for half the price...better tasting, too.

I've been here several times because people keep telling me how great it is, so I've given it multiple tries to live up to it's reputation. Unfortunately, it just doesn't do it for me. The breakfast is well, breakfast. Nothing special, and for nothing special it's over priced. On my last visit I went with a group of 6. First we didn't get a server - they all thought someone else had our table, then they lost our order. From seating to eating it took us an hour to get our breakfast. Then after my sister was half way through her omelet she found a hair underneath it on the plate. We didn't say anything but that was it for me, I won't be back.

We went for the fish boil and it was great! We watched the boil over in the rain and thoroughly enjoyed the white fish, potatoes and onions. The fish boil also came with a cherry pie dessert! It was wonderful. The onsite bakery has some wonderful cookies and other baked goods. However, we ordered the stuffed cheese and pepperoni bread to go and found out at home that it was the ham, olive and relish bread. This lowered the review to four stars instead of five.

Very homey. Nothing flashy. The quiche was good, the clam chowder was excellent and the pumpkin whoopsie pies were yummy.

We went there for a Friday night fish boil. A must do in Door County . Not fancy, but still not handing you plastic plates either. The flames must go fifteen feet high and the staff is great and the setting perfect. The waitresses were all pretty, must be from the same family?

My go to breakfast place in Door County. I eat there nearly every morning. They also serve a good lunch--fresh crisp salads, good sandwiches. At breakfast eggs are well cooked to order, local sausage and bacon is outstanding as is their bread (baked on premises). French toast is very good. I think the pancakes could be a little lighter but many people swear by them. Free beverage refills. Very good service keeps things moving. The servers have a great attitude and work hard to please. Good quality bakery on premises. As other reviewers have noted, the air conditioning can struggle. This is not a problem on a "normal" Door County day, but when it's hot outside the place can be too warm for some people's tastes. "Hot outside" for Door County is mid-80's and above.

We ate breakfast in the restaurant (didn't get anything from the bakery), and, eh. It was food. The homefries were tasty, but the Greek omelet was lacking. Needed more feta and less spinach. The main reason I wasn't impressed was because some of the staff were at the counter and they were talking about some upcoming group reservations. All of a sudden I hear the one lady saying "oh yeah, this woman, she called me a witch the last time she was in. She just thinks I'm a witch." And I was thinking, HELLO, I can hear you. Awkward. We did assess the bakery after breakfast and several items looked very tasty, especially the cinnamon bread, but were too full to try anything.

Heard this place was good. So in the area. Got the quiche which was large portion. Served with pasta salad. Spouse got a very large Cuban sandwich on a large baked bread. He liked his sandwich too. I got fish chowder also did not have much flavor. Our server was young and indifferent. Seemed annoyed when we could not decide what we wanted. Texting and not paying attention to her work. It was ok but not worth the drive.

This place is amazing! Great food and the best service. I had the shells with cheese and marinara sauce and it was so good! The fish fry was very fun to watch and everyone who worked there was so friendly. My friend had the fish fry and the fish was good except very boney. They give you a lot of food, enough for probably 2. The cherry pie is the best I have ever had and the bakery is very cute. Overall everything is really great here, the food is and so are the people.

I visit this place frequently during my summer visits to our family cabin in Sturgeon Bay. The owners here are so friendly and actually care about customer service and repeat business. Whether its giving my kids a cookie out of their bakery case or actually fessing up when they've made a mistake and comping my meal, I will continue to come back here. They are what the Door County experience is about!!

Our hotel recommended this restaurant and we we persuaded by the 10% discount by showing our room key. Should have forgotten about the 10% and looked around more as each day the breakfast got better. From the outside the place looks pretty ordinary and that was what it was which I don't mind but some air conditioning, that I would like. When you first enter it's cool but the room where they put us was next to an open door and the screened in porch area. It was about 90 outside and hotter than heck in our room. There was a ceiling fan that wasn't on until I turned it on when the people left whose table was under the fan. That was the only way I survived. Too bad it was so hot and grubby in the restaurant as the food was pretty decent and our server was very efficient. I had a skillet and biscuits, both were good. It wouldn't be my first choice for breakfast and I sure wouldn't go again unless the temperature was 80 or below.

I'm a breakfast babe - gotta have it every morning and if I can get someone else to make it for me, even better. Our hotel did not include breakfast which is part of the reason we booked it. Free breakfasts are usually worth what you paid, have you ever noticed that? At any rate, they recommended Scaturos and we even got a discount with our room key so off we went. Outside looked ok, inside was a bit underwhelming. It's set up to feed a lot of people at the same time so it seemed a bit like a Door County school cafeteria. And it was plenty warm inside. Our waitress was very very friendly and nice which really helped to personalize the experience. I had the quiche which was very tasty - seemed like a bit more of a souffle or casserole but I really liked it. The juice and coffee were ok, no English muffins on the premises. Overall the food was probably a four but the overall experience a three. I liked it but this breakfast babe looked elsewhere for a better morning fix!

Scaturo's is a local favorite. You can tell because their parking lot is ALWAYS full. We have been here for breakfast and lunch. Each time we visit, we never leave disappointed. The decor is Midwestern, and the walls are adorned with art work from local artists. The food is great, the service is good. As locals, it will remain one of our favorite places to eat.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
